Should I Play American- Or European Roulette?

When it comes to playing online roulette, there are many different games available. Oftentimes the biggest difference is the bonuses, the graphics, and the sounds. But there is one actual difference that determines your chances of winning – do you play European Roulette or American Roulette? The beauty of playing online is that you can make the choice yourself.

The biggest difference is the inclusion of zero or double-zero. The European version (sometimes referred to as French Roulette) includes a single zero. The zero has a green color on the table and it is referred to as the “house number.” The reason it has that name is that it gives the house a slight edge when playing roulette.

If you were to bet on red or black without the zero, the odds that the ball would end up on red or black would be 50/50. Because of the addition of the 37th pocket that the ball can land on (the zero), it gives the house a slight advantage when you are playing roulette. What is the difference?

The largest difference between American roulette and European roulette is that American roulette has an extra green color slot with double zeroes. The Labouchere Roulette System

The Labouchere roulette system in roulette is also called the cancellation system. Here is how the strategy works.

Standard Labouchere system (increasing bets when you lose)

1)  You start with a certain bankroll, and choose a sequence of numbers to start with. This could be anything, but a typical starting series would be 1-2-3-4-5-6.

2)  You make even odds bets, such as red or black.

3)  Add together the first and last numbers on your list. In this example, it would be 1+6 = 7, so you would bet 7.

4)  If you win, cross out the two numbers you started with. For this example, your list would now be 2-3-4-5.

5)  If you lose, then write your bet at the end of your list. Your list would be 1-2-3-4-5-6-7.

6)  Repeat the process until you either cross out all the numbers (you win), or you lose all your money.

7)  Most of the time this system will give you a small win, but there are occasional times when you will have a big loss.

Reverse Labouchere system (increasing bets when you win)

1)  The reverse strategy starts just the same as the standard does. You have a bankroll and a sequence of numbers like 1-2-3-4-5-6.

2)  As in the standard strategy, add together the first and last numbers on your list. In this example, it would be 1+6 = 7, so you bet casino

3)  The rules for what happens if you win or lose are the exact opposite of the standard strategy. If you win, then add your bet to the end of your list.  Your list would be 1-2-3-4-5-6-7.

4)  If you lose, cross out the two numbers you started with. Cross out the 1 and 6, and your list would now be 2-3-4-5.

5)  Continue repeating the process.

6)  Most of the time this system will give you a small loss, but there are occasional times when you will get a big win.

Fibonacci Roulette Strategy

Fibonacci was an Italian mathematician in the middle ages, who wrote about a set of numbers called the Fibonacci series. These numbers form the basis of the Fibonacci roulette strategy.

The Fibonacci series

This numerical series starts with two 1’s. Each successive number is the sum of the two numbers before it, so the series continually increases.  1+1 = 2, then 1+2 = 3, then 2+3 = 5. Here is the start of the series.

How the strategy works

1)  You start at the first one, and bet on one of the even money bets such as Odd or Even.

2)  Whenever you lose, you move forward in the series, and bet the next amount on the next spin.

3)  Whenever you win, you move two steps back in the series, and bet that amount.

4)  Keep repeating this process until you are back at the beginning of the series (including the two 1’s).  At that point, you will have won 1.

Pros of the Fibonacci strategy

  • If you keep working the system until you get back to the beginning, you will end up with a win.
  • When you play through a string with more losses than wins, this strategy can still return a profit, when flat betting would have given you a net loss.
  • It is not as risky as the Martingale system, in which you double your bet after each loss. In Fibonacci, the bets go up more gradually, so you have less at stake.

Cons of the Fibonacci strategy

  • You may have to play a long time to get back to the beginning of the series, to get a profit of 1.
  • You always need to keep track of where you are in the series, and what your next bet will be.
  • The further into the series you get, the bigger your risks are on each spin. It is possible to have a long string of losses that leaves you in a deep hole.
